2015. Reclining Nude
A man, not unlike me, sitting where I sit, leaning how I lean, drinking from my mug.
Graphite on canvas, hand painted maple frame
124 ½” x 110 ½”
2015
A self-portrait, this work was made over four 12 hour sessions involving a model in a gesture similar to one which I have also made in the same space, reclining in a chair in thought. This piece offers a consideration of the experience of self-reflexive thought, leisure, and the labour of making. The draped scene is once again stagnated on the surface of the canvas through marking with graphite. The weight of the graphite is defined by the hardness or softness of the surface below the woven fabric.
