With each pose of the Giant we see space for percarity - the space of expression, the moment right before movement - the baroque in situ. The smile of a young man drunk with expression. Movement captured right before the finale, the fall, the lunge, death - passed out, exhausted, drunk. The moment of extraneous gesture. Pain and pleasure weep from the cracks and crevices. Yet each object, each Giant, only presents us with form. The details to which Zeus had the opportunity to investigate up close are rippled and layered with marks, lines of colour and texture. Like the history of painting itself these Giants, scattered about the gallery, give us nothing but the medium. They give us light, that is absorbed and reflected. They reveal and cancel nothing of the form. The form of the Giant. The Giant as subject. The Giant as medium.
